In Spec Ops, Walkers assumptions are all wrong and rather than ever take a moment to think about what he should do, what is happening, where he's going or why, he just makes rash, in-the-moment decisions based on what he knows already.

The protag's assumptions always turn out to be right, because you are the hero. All with a lack of information as to what exactly is going on - normally, that's just a hook to get the player to press onward and find out whatever revelations or twists the story may have in store, or what obstacles they have to face. Walker embodies a player character in an FPS - always trying to save the day no matter the odds, thinking he knows how to fix everything that's going wrong, and that the best way to do this is to kill whoever is causing the problem.

It's a deconstruction of the FPS hero, where all the leaps of logic, bold maneuvers and foolhardy drive to press on - that in an action story lead to great success and glory for the protagonist - here lead to complete disaster.
